The Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Nigerian Senate and representative of Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has expressed his support for the proposed State Police.
As a member of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, Nwebonyi emphasized the need for state police to address the overwhelming security challenges facing the country, which the federal police seem unable to tackle alone.
In an interview with AIT’s “Inside Parliament” program on Tuesday at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Nwebonyi also addressed the proposed increase in electricity tariffs.
He reiterated his opposition to any increase at this time, citing the economic hardships Nigerians are currently facing.
Nwebonyi encouraged Nigerians to have faith in the President Tinubu-led administration, assuring that the benefits of his economic policies will soon be felt by all citizens.
He also highlighted the importance of the ongoing constitutional amendment, which aims to address governance loopholes and update the military-created constitution.
The senator concluded by promising that the 2024 budget will yield bountiful harvests for all Nigerians, emphasizing the need for patience and trust in the government’s efforts to address the country’s challenges.
“Of course, Nigerians should expect the best. We have passed our budget. Very soon, the proceeds of the budget will start flowing out all towards making Nigerians happy in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu ‘s administration,” he said.
