Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau has officially declared his defection to the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party.
According to The Punch, Shekarau announced his defection during plenary on Wednesday through a letter received addressed to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan.
Lawan announcing his defection during plenary said the former New Nigeria Peoples Party member wishes to officially inform his colleagues of his defection.
He had earlier moved from the All Progressives Congress to the NNPP.
His official decamping is coming only a month after defecting from the NNPP to the PDP.
Shekarau had on Monday, August 29, 2022, defected alongside his supporters to PDP from NNPP on grounds of alleged unfair treatment by the party led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The former Kano State Governor in his defection letter said his defection and that of his supporters in Kano, from NNPP to PDP, was to carry out their political aspirations in a party well disposed to them.
Shekarau was then welcomed by PDP senators led by the minority leader, Philip Aduda, and the minority whip, Chukwuka Utazi, who joyfully embraced Shakarau for defecting to their party.
