The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended seven individuals suspected of illegal dealings in petroleum products.
The arrests were made during a recent operation conducted by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad.
Confirming the development on Friday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Corps revealed that the raid led to the sealing of five suspected illegal oil storage sites. Several trucks believed to be transporting petroleum products of dubious origin were also impounded.
“The NSCDC Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has arrested seven suspects, sealed five illegal oil dumps, and impounded several trucks laden with suspected petroleum products,” the agency stated in the post.
The operation forms part of the NSCDC’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on the illegal oil trade and protect national assets from economic sabotage.
Reacting to the success of the raid, an NSCDC official, who requested anonymity, said, “This action underscores our resolve to rid the country of oil theft and illegal bunkering. We are committed to pursuing every lead and dismantling the network of criminality threatening our petroleum sector.”
