President Bola Tinubu is expected to submit the 2024 Supplementary budget for legislative approval after the Sallah break to the Senate.
The Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, provided this update to The PUNCH, confirming that the N6.6 trillion supplementary budget is currently being finalized by the executive branch and will be delivered to the National Assembly after its July 2 resumption.
Adaramodu explained, “The budget would be sent any time we resume after the Sallah recess. I believe the bill and other important executive communication will be sent to the National Assembly when we resume in July.”
In response to inquiries about the budget’s size, especially in light of the minister’s statement that it would cover part of the coastal road project, Adaramodu confirmed, “The budget size is N6.6tn.”
President Bola Tinubu, during his address to a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives at the National Assembly complex on May 29, indicated that the supplementary budget for the 2024 fiscal year would be forthcoming. He stated, “I will soon bring the 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill; that is just for your information.”
Additionally, last week, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, during a briefing with the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs, disclosed that the supplementary budget was still in the preparation stages.
