The Nigerian Senate has confirmed all seven ministerial nominees presented by President Bola Tinubu following last week’s cabinet reshuffle.
The confirmation process was completed in a five-hour session.
Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele presented the president’s request to the upper legislative chamber, citing Section 147 (2) of the Constitution.
“That the Senate do consider the request of Mr. President , Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for the confirmation of the following nominees for appointment as ministers of Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in accordance with Section 147 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended,” he prayed.
The nominees were initially scheduled for screening on Tuesday but were postponed until Wednesday.
The Senate dissolved into the Committee of the Whole, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio presiding. After a thorough questioning session, all seven nominees were confirmed as ministers.
The newly confirmed ministers include:
Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Suwaiba Said Ahmed Ahmad.
Akpabio concluded the session by praying for divine guidance to enable the new ministers to serve Nigerians effectively, according to Daily Post.
This confirmation fulfills the constitutional requirement for Senate approval of ministerial nominees.
The confirmation of the seven new ministers brings the total number of ministers in President Tinubu’s cabinet to 43, paving the way for the ministers to begin their duties.
