A Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance from the southeast, Obiora Ugwu, has written to President Bola Tinubu, to wade into the lingering intra-party crisis rocking the national leadership of the party.
Ugwu who alleged that the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo is the brain behind the refusal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, to obey the court judgement on the national leadership of the party.
This is coming following a court judgement, which purportedly sacked Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, and affirmed Edozie Njoku as the authentic national chairman of the party.
Mr Ugwu in the open letter signed and addressed to the President and made available, which was made available to newsmen on Saturday, criticized an alleged abuse of the judiciary arm of the Nigerian government by the INEC, by refusing to honour the court judgement in respect of the leadership tussle between Edozie Njoku, Victor Oye and Barr Sly Ezeokenwa.
According to him, the cracks within the party have been on for a while.
“The leadership tussle has been going on since 2018, the Supreme Court delivered a judgement on March 24, 2023, that settled the matter, reaffirming Njoku as the national chairman of APGA and the Supreme Court directed INEC to recognize him with immediate effect,” he stated.
However, he expressed disappointment that the INEC boss has refused to carry out the order issued by the Supreme Court since 2023.
The letter reads partly:
“This has become ridiculous to the entire world and Nigeria in particular. No sane nation disobeys the Supreme Court’s judgement.
“This open letter is for you, Mr President, to wade into this matter to save the face of the Nigerian judiciary.
“The Governor of Anambra State and also the leader of APGA, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has continued to use the money to prevent the INEC Chairman from carrying out the directives of the court, thereby ridiculing the Nigerian judiciary.
“Southeast and all APGA stakeholders are hanging on, expecting that the orders must be respected.
“Mr President, please, we ask you to save APGA from the hands of Soludo and INEC chairman, Yakubu,” Ugwu wrote.
