The Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry has summoned 109 individuals, including top allies of former Governor Nyesom Wike, to testify about the recent attacks on local government secretariats.
The commission, led by Hon. Justice I. R. Minakiri, aims to investigate the arson, killings, and destruction of properties at local government council headquarters.
Those summoned include former local government chairmen, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, Obarilomate Ollor, and Hope Ikiriko, who served under Wike’s administration.
Also summoned is Hon. Aforji Igwe, a member of the State House of Assembly loyal to Wike, according to Politics Nigeria.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara had vowed to investigate the attacks, which occurred on October 7, 2024. The commission has scheduled witnesses to appear on specific dates, starting from October 30. Witnesses from various local government areas, including Ikwerre, Eleme, Khan, Emuoha, Ohio/Akpor, and Ahoada East, will testify between October 30 and November 11.
The commission requires summoned individuals to appear at the Rivers State High Court Complex in Port Harcourt at 9:00 AM with any evidence to support their testimony. Failure to appear may have consequences.
The investigation is part of Governor Fubara’s efforts to address the violence and unrest that erupted in the state.
The Rivers State Judicial Commission’s findings will shed light on the circumstances surrounding the attacks and hold those responsible accountable.
“To give evidence and or tender document(s) in respect of the inquiry. Therefore, do not fail, as it may be at your peril.
“You are required to bring with you any evidence to establish your case,” the statement by Hon. Justice I. R. Minakiri, added.
