A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dele Momodu, has urged Nigerians to sympathize with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara amid the crisis rocking the state.
The crisis, which has been ongoing between Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, revolves around the state’s political structure.
The situation escalated following the local government area elections and the destruction of LG secretariats.
Momodu made his plea while commenting on a video where Wike publicly rebuked former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi. He described the face-off between Wike and his successor, Fubara, as bizarre.
“A lot of people cannot understand or appreciate why we caution our friends not to abuse power but the reason is simple, the repercussion of tyranny is usually catastrophic and it may even endanger our hard-earned Democracy.
“LIFE should never be about POWER only. Here was governor Nyesom Wike rebuking his former boss, governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. This is why we find his fight against Governor Sim Fubara very bizarre,” Momodu wrote in a post via X.
Momodu further emphasized, “I have never had a personal relationship with FUBARA. Never. But he deserves our sympathy.”
The veteran journalist and politician cautioned that those in power must recognize the dangers of abusing their authority. He stressed that the repercussions of tyranny can be catastrophic and potentially threaten Nigeria’s democracy.
Momodu’s concerns highlight the need for leaders to exercise their power responsibly and avoid actions that could destabilize the democratic system. His appeal for sympathy towards Governor Fubara underscores the human impact of the crisis and the importance of finding a peaceful resolution.
The ongoing crisis in Rivers State has raised concerns among Nigerians, with many calling for a swift resolution to prevent further escalation.
