The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, on Thursday attended the National Economic Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
Ibas’ presence at the NEC meeting is one of his first high-level public engagements since he was appointed to oversee the affairs of Rivers State amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Also spotted at the session was the newly-defected Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party alongside his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Other state governors in attendance include the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak; Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo; and Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, among others.
A number of deputy governors were also present at the meeting, which is a statutory gathering that brings together key decision-makers across the federation to deliberate on pressing economic and developmental issues.
The NEC meeting, which is chaired by the Vice President, serves as an advisory body to the President and provides a platform for federal and state governments to align on economic policies and initiatives of national importance.
