As the conflict between Israel and Hamas escalates, United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has called for a Cobra meeting today, October 10, to discuss how the UK can support its ally.
Daily Mail reported that he said the UK would provide Israel with military equipment and intelligence assistance to help it defend itself from the terrorist attacks.
Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza, launched a surprise offensive on Israel last week, killing hundreds of civilians and taking some as hostages. Israel responded by declaring war and launching airstrikes on Gaza, targeting the Hamas infrastructure and leadership.
The violence has claimed the lives of more than 1,100 people, including a British citizen who was serving in the Israeli army. Nathanel Young, 20, was killed at the Gaza border on Saturday.
The international community has urged both sides to end the hostilities and resume peace talks, but there is no sign of a ceasefire yet.
