Real Madrid will be without midfielder Eduardo Camavinga for the rest of the season, including this weekend’s Copa del Rey final clash against Barcelona, due to a left adductor injury.
Camavinga, 22, made a second-half appearance in Madrid’s 1-0 LaLiga win over Getafe on Wednesday but had to be withdrawn after sustaining the injury, leaving his side to finish the match with ten men.
While the club has not provided an exact timeline for his recovery, a source told ESPN that the Frenchman will be out for Madrid’s remaining five league fixtures, with the injury expected to sideline him for over a month.
“Following tests carried out today on Eduardo Camavinga by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a complete tear of the tendon in his left abductor muscle. His recovery will be assessed,” the club confirmed in a statement released on Thursday.
After the match, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged the likelihood of Camavinga and teammate David Alaba missing Saturday’s final, saying it would be difficult for either to return in time.
Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign kicks off against Al Hilal on June 18, with fixtures against Liga MX’s Pachuca and Austria’s RB Salzburg also scheduled in the group stage.
So far this season, Camavinga has featured in 35 matches across all competitions, netting two goals.
He has also battled other fitness setbacks this season, missing the UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta in August due to a knee issue and later suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the year.
