Russia President, Vladimir Putin, on Thursday spoke concerning the mysterious death of his one-time ally and Wagner Group leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
Prigozhin died in a plane crash on Wednesday.
Putin, according to Forbes, called the mercenary group chief “a person with a complicated fate”.
Putin reportedly said Prigozhin was a talented businessman who “made some serious mistakes in life, but he also achieved necessary results.”
The Russian president said he was told Prigozhin returned from Africa on Wednesday and met with officials in Moscow before the plane crash.
During a meeting broadcast on Russian television, Putin offered his condolences to the families of those on the plane and described them as ”people who made a substantial contribution to our joint efforts of fighting the neo-Nazi regime in Ukraine.”
Recall that, in June, the Wagner group allegedly plotted a coup against Putin and a serious conflict ensued between the old time friends (Putin and Prigozhin), so much that Belarusian President, Alexander Lukashenko, had to intervene.
Premium Politics reported that, Lukashenko, had said he stopped Putin from assassinating the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, Prigozhin, after staging an abortive mutiny in Russia.
“We could waste (Mr Prigozhin), no problem. If not on the first try, then on the second. I told him: don’t do this,” Mr Lukashenko said he told Mr Putin during a meeting with security officials.
