The Peoples Redemption Party has called on the Nigerian Government to withdraw the country’s involvement in the pro-LGBT Samoa Agreement.
Daily Post reported that this call was made by the Acting National Publicity Secretary of the PRP, Muhammed Ishaq, in a statement issued on Thursday.
This controversy began when the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, confirmed that Nigeria had signed the Samoa Agreement during a reception organized by the European Union on Monday in Abuja. The agreement, signed on November 15, 2023, in Samoa, has sparked significant debate within Nigeria.
The PRP has criticized the agreement, claiming it undermines the trust and values of the Nigerian people. “We demand that the government immediately withdraw from this agreement,” the party stated. They further argued that, “The Samoa Agreement, signed on November 15, 2023, in Samoa, is a celebration of perversity and a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty. Articles 2.5 and 29.5 of the Agreement legalize LGBT, transgenderism, abortion, teen sexual abuse, and perversity in African countries.”
The PRP questioned the judgment of the Nigerian officials who signed the agreement, expressing concern about its implications for Nigeria’s societal values and way of life. The party alleged that the agreement was a result of EU pressure and coercion, involving threats of economic sanctions and funding denial for non-compliant countries. “We reject this form of bullying and intimidation, which is a clear violation of our sovereignty,” the statement read.
Contrary to the PRP’s assertions, Bagudu’s media assistant, Bolaji Adebiyi, clarified to Daily Trust that the agreement mentioned by Bagudu on Monday was related to a $150 billion trade component, not the issues highlighted by the PRP.
