Popular Nigerian street-hop artist, Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has been ordered into custody at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to meet bail conditions set by an Upper Area Court on Monday.
The singer appeared before the court on allegations of defamation brought against him by veteran Fuji musician, Akorede Saheed, also known as Saheed Osupa. Portable had reportedly made defamatory statements against the Fuji star, prompting legal action.
The presiding judge granted the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties required to meet specific criteria. One surety must be a high-ranking official—either the Chairman or Secretary—of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria.
The second must be a property owner within a Government Reserved Area in Ilorin and must present a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
A court official who spoke under anonymity explained, “The conditions are not unusual in cases involving high-profile individuals, especially when the allegations could affect reputations and public standing.”
As of press time, Portable had not met the bail conditions and was subsequently remanded.
Efforts to reach representatives of both Portable and Saheed Osupa were unsuccessful, but a source close to the Fuji musician said, “We just want justice to take its course. No one is above the law.”
