The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has pledged to intensify the fight against vandalism and other criminal activities across the state, with a specific focus on protecting public infrastructure from sabotage.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Jimoh condemned the spate of cable vandalism, branding the perpetrators as “saboteurs” whose actions threaten the progress and safety of the state.
“These vandals are not just criminals—they are enemies of development. People who destroy government infrastructure have no place in a civilised society,” Jimoh declared.
Highlighting Lagos’ strategic importance as Nigeria’s commercial capital, the police chief emphasized that maintaining security goes beyond routine law enforcement.
“Our responsibility is not limited to arresting offenders. We are working proactively to prevent crime and ensure a secure environment for all residents,” he said.
Jimoh also credited increased inter-agency cooperation for improved security outcomes under his leadership.
“Since assuming office, I’ve prioritised synergy between security agencies. There’s been no friction, and we’ve maintained a united front against crime,” he noted.
To further boost crime prevention efforts, the Commissioner introduced a tactical unit called the Eko Strike Force, tasked with swift intervention in high-risk areas.
“Patrols have been intensified, and our strategies are yielding results. We are not waiting for crimes to happen before responding—we are stopping them before they occur,” he added.
Addressing the growing concern of cable theft, Jimoh confirmed that all 25 tactical squads, alongside the Eko Strike Force, have been mobilised to identify and apprehend not just vandals but also those receiving stolen materials.
“It’s a chain of crime—from those who steal to those who buy. We are going after everyone involved,” he warned.
The Commissioner also expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for supporting the police with logistics, including the recent donation of 72 patrol vehicles.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu has been a true partner in safety. His support strengthens our ability to protect lives and property,” he said.
Jimoh assured residents of Lagos that the police would remain vigilant and responsive, stressing the command’s duty to not only enforce the law but also engage the public.
“As the lead agency in internal security, we are accountable to the people. We owe them transparency, safety, and unwavering dedication,” he concluded.
