The Nigeria Police Force has reactivated its digital platform for the issuance of Tinted Glass Permits across the country, in a renewed push to address public complaints and strengthen national security.
Announcing the development on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the move followed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
The digital application process is now accessible via possap.gov.ng.
The police said the reactivation was necessary to address rising concerns over the harassment of motorists using vehicles with factory-fitted tinted windows and to provide a transparent and accountable system for regulating their use.
“With the increasing number of modern vehicles manufactured with tinted glass, it has become imperative to establish a clear, legitimate process for owners to obtain approval while upholding public safety,” ACP Adejobi stated.
He noted that vehicles with tinted windows have often been used to perpetrate crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and “one-chance” scams, making it difficult for law enforcement to monitor activities and respond effectively.
“This initiative will help identify genuine users, such as individuals with medical conditions or those in security-related roles, and prevent abuse by criminal elements,” he added.
According to the Force, the new system integrates identity verification through the National Identification Number (NIN) and Tax Identification Number (TIN), biometric capture, and background checks. Permits will now include QR codes and will be processed within 72 hours.
To ease the transition, the Police have approved a 30-day grace period starting May 1, 2025, during which motorists are expected to obtain their permits. Enforcement of the policy will begin immediately after the grace period ends.
“The Nigeria Police Force will not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct, including extortion or harassment during enforcement. Any officer found guilty will face strict disciplinary action,” the police spokesperson warned.
IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the policy aligns with the Force’s commitment to technology-driven, citizen-oriented policing.
“We are leveraging digital tools to ensure accountability and restore public confidence. This permit system is a step towards safer roads and a more secure Nigeria,” the IGP said.
The Force urged Nigerians to cooperate with the policy to promote national security and improve trust between the police and the public.
