The Oyo State Police Command has disbursed a total of N20.12 billion to the families of 7,076 police officers who lost their lives in active service.
The cheques were presented during a solemn event at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, where the state Commissioner of Police, Johnson Adenola, commended the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for his steadfast commitment to the welfare of police families.
“A total of N20,123,420,691.70 has been released to the widows and dependents of 7,076 fallen officers in the state,” Adenola announced. “This demonstrates the Inspector General’s unwavering dedication to ensuring that the families of our departed colleagues are not forgotten.”
He extended condolences to the bereaved families and acknowledged the emotional and financial hardship that often follows the loss of a loved one in service.
“No amount of money can truly compensate for your loss,” he said, “but it is our hope that this support provides some relief. We stand with you in this time of grief.”
Adenola also reiterated the force’s commitment to ensuring that all outstanding claims would be settled. “To those whose entitlements are still being processed, please be assured that this administration will not relent until every backlog is cleared.”
The Commissioner highlighted a recent innovation in the police insurance system — the Nigerian Police Insurance Claim Management Portal — which aims to improve the speed and transparency of claims processing.
“With this digital platform, we are eliminating bottlenecks and ensuring timely delivery of benefits. The initiative is a significant step toward modernizing welfare services for our personnel and their families,” he noted.
He concluded by appreciating IGP Egbetokun’s focus on both serving officers and retirees, affirming that their sacrifices would never be taken for granted.
