The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspected killer of Awoyinka Sumaila, a businessman who was brutally murdered in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
Sumaila, known for dealing in building materials, was shot dead by gunmen at his residence located opposite Caring Heart Mega School in the Idi Mango area of Ore on March 1, 2025. His killing sparked widespread outrage and concern among residents and business owners in the area.
In a statement released on Friday in Akure, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olushola, revealed that the prime suspect was apprehended on April 10 in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, following a thorough and discreet investigation by the police.
“The arrest was made after a painstaking manhunt led operatives back to Ore,” Olushola stated.
He further disclosed that a search of the suspect’s premises yielded significant evidence, including a locally-made pistol believed to have been used in the killing, as well as various criminal charms.
“A locally-made pistol believed to have been used in the murder, along with criminal charms, were recovered during a search of the suspect’s premises,” he said.
Reaffirming the command’s commitment to security and justice, Olushola assured the public that efforts to rid Ondo State of criminals remain relentless.
He said, “No stone would be left unturned in ridding Ondo State of criminals.”
