Popular Nigerian social media figure, Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja following allegations he made against Guaranty Trust Bank.
VDM was reportedly taken into custody on Friday at the GTBank premises in the Area 3 district of Abuja.
His arrest is said to be connected to a video he released online accusing the bank of permitting unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account.
His legal representative, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the incident via a statement on Twitter, saying he had spoken to VDM shortly before he was picked up.
“This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime,” Adeyanju wrote. “A team of policemen arrested VDM at GTBank. He was arrested along with his friend, C Park, but his mother was left behind.”
The exact charges, if any, have not yet been disclosed by authorities.
