The Plateau state government has committed to supporting vulnerable children’s education, particularly those affected by inter and intra-communal conflicts.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, represented by Goyomma Iliya, announced the government’s plan to place a state of emergency on the educational sector to help children who have dropped out of school due to conflicts, according to Independent.
The government’s effort is in response to the high rate of school dropouts in areas like Jebbu Miango Community in Bassa Local Government, which has experienced recent attacks.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Sunday Danbim, appreciated the efforts of organizations supporting vulnerable children and assured of the ministry’s partnership in helping them.
The Army Child Foundation and Claire Aid Foundation have collaborated on a project providing child education, advocacy, and welfare services.
The initiative aims to equip children with skills and literacy programs, enabling them to acquire good communication skills and continue their education.
Benefiting children expressed satisfaction with the skills they acquired and called on the government to improve school facilities by deploying more teachers.
