The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has confirmed the rescue of two individuals from the rubble of a collapsed building under construction on Agarawu Street, near the Aroloya Central Mosque in Idumota, Lagos Island.
The incident, which occurred on Monday at approximately 2:00 p.m., prompted a swift response from emergency officials following a distress call placed through LASEMA’s 767 and 112 Emergency Toll-Free lines at about 2:16 p.m.
In a statement released by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, he disclosed that the LASEMA Response Team from its Lekki Base was immediately dispatched to the site.
“On arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a storey building, under construction, self-collapsed at the aforementioned location.
“So far, two adult males, rescued from the rubble of the building, had been given first aid treatment by the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit,” he said.
Dr Oke-Osanyintolu added that no other casualty had been recorded at the time the report was filed.
He stated that law enforcement agencies had cordoned off the scene to prevent unauthorised access and ensure safety.
While the immediate cause of the building collapse remains unknown, the LASEMA boss assured that further investigations would be carried out to determine what led to the incident.
He confirmed that the agency had concluded its search and rescue operations at the site.
