The Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party in Enugu State, Mr Titus Odo, has officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, marking a significant political shift in the state.
He was joined in the move by Prince Emeka Mamah, a former Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs and the Enugu State Coordinator of the Peter Obi Presidential Campaign during the 2023 general elections.
The duo, who had previously dumped the PDP for the LP ahead of the 2023 elections, were formally received back into the PDP on Wednesday at the party’s State Secretariat.
Welcoming the defectors, the PDP Chairman in Enugu State, Dr Martin Chukwunwike, expressed delight at their return and acknowledged the directive given by Governor Peter Mbah to reach out to aggrieved former members and encourage their return to the party fold.
“We are happy to have them in our midst and God has set this party on a good foot as 2027 is already assured,” he said.
Chukwunwike emphasised the need for party unity and cohesion in order to strengthen the PDP’s positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the event, Mr Titus Odo said he was glad to be back in the PDP and cited several reasons for his decision. Chief among them was the impressive governance and infrastructural development witnessed under Governor Peter Mbah.
“I am happy to tell you that I am back to my home. I came back because of the giant developmental strides of Gov Mbah and I say kudos to him,” he stated.
He also mentioned the defection of his former principal, Dr Chijioke Edeoga, the LP’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Enugu State, as another influencing factor in his decision to return to the PDP.
“The second reason is the defection of my immediate boss, the LP Governorship candidate for the 2023 election in Enugu State, Dr Chijioke Edeoga,” he said.
Furthermore, Odo commended the Chairman of Igboeze North Local Government Area, Mr Uchenna Ogara, for the remarkable transformation happening in the council area.
“Another reason is that the Council Chairman in Igboeze North, Mr Uchenna Ogara is turning the Council Area into a township,” he added.
On his part, Prince Emeka Mamah also expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership at the local and state levels for accepting him back into the party. He lauded Governor Mbah for his inclusive leadership and willingness to reconcile with those who had previously parted ways with the PDP.
“Personally, I am pleased with the performances of our governor,” Mamah said, while thanking the PDP leaders in Igboeze North, Enugu North Senatorial Zone, and the entire state chapter.
The defection of the two key figures is viewed as a significant boost for the PDP in Enugu State as it seeks to consolidate power ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
