The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has issued a directive to its members in the State House of Assembly to ensure the immediate inauguration of Aaron Uzodike as member representing Aba North State Constituency.
This development follows a Court of Appeal ruling in Lagos, which restored Uzodike’s mandate and nullified the victory of Destiny Nwagwu of the Labour Party.
The PDP chairman in Abia State, Alwell Asiforo Okere, stated that the party’s State Working Committee has consulted on the matter and instructed its lawmakers to facilitate Uzodike’s inauguration.
The move comes amid allegations that the Speaker of the House, Emmanuel Emeruwa, has failed to swear in Uzodike despite the court’s ruling. The PDP is pushing for Uzodike’s inauguration and demanding an end to the delay, according to Daily Post.
“Abia PDP is convinced that there are no legal obstacles preventing his inauguration, following the issuance of his Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on December 13, 2023, which is the only requirement for his inauguration.
“We urge Abia elders, concerned citizens of Abia State, and conscientious members of the Labour Party, especially those dissatisfied with their leader’s autocratic tendencies, to intervene and ensure the immediate inauguration of Hon Aaron Uzodike to avoid the bastardization of our democracy and prevent the constituents from resorting to self help”, the statement added.
