The Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the coming governorship election in Lagos State, Abdul-Azeez Adediran popularly known as Jandor, has commiserated with the victims of today’s train accident.
Recall, it was earlier reported by PunchMetro, early this morning, that a moving train rammed into a BRT bus, loaded with the staff of the Lagos State Government.
However, three people were confirmed dead and eighty-five other injured, in the accident, caused by the reckless driving of the BRT driver, who tried to beat the rail sign.
While at the scene of the incident today, Jandor called on the appropriate authority to make available, barricades at every rail line interception, to avert a replica of such incident.
Jandor, who called on the Lagos State Government, to investigate the cause of the accident, said the management of the Lagos BRT services needs a reassessment.
He said, “I am devastated to learn of the accident that occurred today involving a BRT Bus and the national rail line. I commisserate with those who lost loved ones in this avoidable tragedy and wish a safe recovery to those who suffered mild and severe injuries.
“At the scene of the accident, I emphasised on the need to ensure that there are barricades at every rail line intersections to avert a replica of this unfortunate incident. These barricades will pop up automatically and prevent vehicular movement whenever a train is approaching.
“I call on the state government to respond swiftly to determine the cause of this tragedy, institute the appropriate consequences if negligence is involved, and reassess its management of the Lagos BRT service.
While blaming the government for its negligence in securing the lives of its citizens, he emphasized on the need to have an emphatic leader, who will respond swiftly, in times of tragedy.
“Until this government is sworn out of office, it is still accountable to the citizenry and we deserve empathetic leaders who respond swiftly in times of tragedy. I urge the government to take action and redeemed whatever is left of its tattered reputation,’ he said.
