The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has officially recognized Nname Robinson Ewor as the legitimate leader of the party in Rivers State, following a court ruling that removed the previous executive led by Aaron Chukwuemeka.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the NWC confirmed the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses conducted in July and August 2024. The court’s decision, handed down on January 13, 2025, has led to the formal recognition of the Ewor-led executive.
Ologunagba noted that this decision was in line with the provisions of the PDP’s constitution, as amended in 2017. The NWC commended the court’s ruling, emphasizing that it reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transparency, internal democracy, and adherence to the rule of law.
The NWC called on all party leaders, members, and stakeholders in Rivers State to work together with the new executive to ensure unity, stability, and the continued success of the PDP in the state. The committee further tasked the Ewor-led leadership with strengthening the party’s position, fostering growth, and promoting greater cohesion within the party.
Additionally, the NWC encouraged the Ewor-led executive to focus on uniting the party in the state, ensuring that the people of Rivers State continue to benefit from the policies and governance of the state’s performing governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The NWC also expressed gratitude to all PDP members in Rivers State for their steadfastness and unwavering belief in the party’s democratic ideals.
The statement read: “The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledges receipt, has considered, and hereby accepts the judgment of the Rivers State High Court, which in Suit No. PHC/2301/CS/2024 nullified the Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses of our Party in Rivers State conducted on July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024, respectively.
“Consequently, in line with the judgment of the Court delivered on Monday, January 13, 2025, the NWC affirms the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to henceforth pilot the affairs of the PDP Rivers State Chapter in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
“The NWC commends the decision of the court, which reaffirms the famed position of the PDP as the bastion of transparency in the due process of internal democracy and strict adherence to the rule of law and party guidelines in the conduct of Congresses and other activities.
“The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders, members, and supporters of our Party in Rivers State and the nation to work with the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive to ensure the unity, stability, growth, and continuous success of the PDP in Rivers State.
