Five governors seeking justice, equity and fairness in the Peoples Democratic Party have reportedly jetted off the country for Spain for a crucial meeting.
The Nation reported that the governors led by the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, left the country for Madrid Friday night.
Other members of the group are Oyo Governor, Seyi Makinde; Abia Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu and Venue Governor, Samuel Ortom.
It was also gathered that the Enugu Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is expected to join the rest of the team later.
With the resignation of the embattled and controversial PDP National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, being the reason for their aggravations, it is only likely that this ‘crucial meeting’ is for the same purpose.
The G5’s stand has remained that the party chairman resigns, as this is the condition that will guarantee their allegiance to the party and join the presidential campaign council of the party’s Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
It all balls down to the fact that the party currently has its National Chairman as well as its presidential candidate from the northern zone of the country and according to the party regulations, it is not to be so. The aggrieved Governors have insisted this is unfair, especially, ahead of the poll.
Recall, that just recently, Wike, in a statement has said if Ayu’s children knew his secret, they would be ashamed of him, levying several allegations against the chairman.
The Wike-led G5 team jet off to Spain after a live media chat in Port Harcourt where the Cross River Governor heaped more allegations on Ayu maintaining that the national chairman lacked the integrity to lead the party’s campaign for 2023.
