The National Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party has issued a statement clarifying that current party members do not need to revalidate their membership as part of the ongoing membership drive, which is intended solely for attracting new members.
The clarification came during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary. This announcement was made in response to reports suggesting that existing party members were being asked to revalidate their membership during the current nationwide recruitment campaign.
Ologunagba explained that the confusion stemmed from misinformation and emphasized that the membership drive is focused on expanding the party’s base. “The NWC in clear terms clarifies that the on-going membership drive and registration of new members is only targeted at providing opportunity and access to eligible Nigerians who are enthusiastic and surging in their millions to register as members of our Party across the country,” Ologunagba said.
He further addressed the issue of existing members being asked to revalidate their membership: “The NWC has received reports that some existing members of our great Party in some Wards in certain States are being requested to revalidate their membership in the on-going membership drive and registration of new members.”
Ologunagba assured current members that their membership status, rights, and privileges are unaffected by the ongoing drive, affirming that “no existing member is expected or required to have his or her membership revalidated as such individuals remain bona-fide members of the Party and not subject to any form of revalidation.”
He also urged all PDP members and officers, particularly at the ward level, to adhere to this clarification. “All members and officers of our Party especially at all Electoral Wards across the country should take note of the above and be guided accordingly,” he said.
Highlighting the success of the membership drive, Ologunagba acknowledged the growing interest from Nigerians. “The NWC again acknowledges the continuing influx of millions of Nigerians into our Party in the on-going PDP membership drive exercise across the country,” he noted.
Ologunagba concluded by encouraging members to collaborate in strengthening the party as it prepares for future challenges. “The PDP urges all members to continue to work together in the drive to further strengthen our Party for the task ahead,” he stated.
