One of the five individuals injured in Friday’s explosion at a CCTV shop located on Kodesho Street, close to the bustling Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos, has sadly passed away.
A source within the tech hub, who spoke The PUNCH on Sunday under the condition of anonymity due to the delicate nature of the matter, confirmed the death, revealing that the victim succumbed to injuries on Saturday.
“We lost one of them on Saturday evening. The doctors made efforts to save him, but he didn’t make it.
“They are currently battling to save the lives of others,” the source stated.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier disclosed that five people sustained injuries during the blast, which occurred around 6:35 pm.
According to a statement from the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the area was immediately secured by operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit, the Mobile Police Detachment, and other units to maintain safety.
“The scene was swept by the EOD experts of the command to ensure the safety of residents and facilitate a comprehensive investigation to determine the actual cause of the explosion,” Hundeyin explained.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also paid a visit to the scene shortly after the explosion to assess the situation firsthand.
Hundeyin further confirmed that the five injured victims were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for medical care.
Upon being contacted to verify the reported death, Hundeyin said, “Yes, we have been informed that one of them died on Saturday.”
On the progress of the ongoing investigation, he noted, “The investigation is still on. We will make it public as soon as it is concluded.”
