The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has announced that any of its officers found guilty of aiding electoral fraud during the Ondo State governorship election will be dismissed.
The Corps’ Deputy Commandant General for Operations, Ayuba Philips, made the statement in Akure, the state capital, on Friday while discussing the Corps’ preparedness for the election.
Philips emphasized that any official involved in actions that compromise the integrity of the election would face immediate dismissal, according to the PUNCH.
He reassured the public that his officers were fully prepared to ensure the election process remains secure and peaceful.
The NSCDC official urged voters to participate in the election without fear, stressing that the Corps would be vigilant in preventing any attempts to disrupt the process. He called on the electorate to trust the NSCDC, promising that they would provide the best service to ensure a fair and orderly election.
Philips also made it clear that the Corps would not tolerate any form of unprofessionalism from its officers. He warned that any officer found engaging in misconduct would face immediate removal from the service, stating that anyone involved in electoral malpractice would be swiftly expelled.
He said, “We want the people to trust us and also believe in us that we shall give them the best and nothing but the best.
“However, let me just say, from the authority of the civil defence. We don’t condone any act of unprofessionalism from any of our officers and men.
“Anybody who decides to commit any atrocity, I think he is asking himself to be out of the system. We shall not leave anybody. Once you commit, you should know your way is out.”
