Amid the impeachment crisis facing the embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, a legal counsel to the deputy governor, Mr Ige Asemudara has alleged that the sour relationship between his client and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu is fueled by a succession plan ahead of the coming governorship election in the state.
Mr Asemudara who disclosed this while featuring on Channels Television Politics Today, accused some government officials of a plot to oust the deputy governor from office.
According to the legal practitioner, abuse of power is one of the issues in Nigeria, noting that the ill-health of Governor Akeredolu among other pressing issues in the state, allegedly left unresolved, the lawmakers are trying so hard to get Aiyedatiwa out of power, to guide against an Ilaje origin comes near the corridor of power in the state, because of unresolved issues of oil derivation fund.
It would be recalled that the House of Assembly vowed to go ahead with the impeachment of the deputy governor, despite a court injunction halting the process of the impeachment proceeding.
However, in reaction to the development, Asemudara said, “One of the very serious issues we have in this country is abuse of legal process.
“In your introduction, you said maybe the political crisis in Ondo is about the next election. I can tell you this is not unconnected with the permutations of the November governorship election in Ondo State.
“There are several other issues. As we speak, the governor is not of sound health, so we should not be talking about impeaching him. They are just trying to pave the way for some sort of anarchy.
“The same elements in the state House of Assembly have refused to account for the oil derivation funds from the Federal Government. They fear that any Ilaje man close to the government is not good for them.”
