Former Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa, has disclosed that late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu had discussed the prospect of assuming the state’s governorship with him.
According to Leadership, Akinterinwa revealed that Akeredolu had advised him to prepare for succession upon his return from a trip to Germany.
Although Akinterinwa, who is yet to declare his governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress formally, shared this revelation, as he was warmly received at the Akure Airport.
Akinterinwa said, “Late Governor Akeredolu had a discussion with me in his office and told me he would want me to take over from him… He prayed for me, and I am aware he told certain people about his desire.”
Regarding his potential candidacy amidst stiff competition, including from the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Akinterinwa expressed optimism about securing the APC ticket for the November 16, 2024, governorship election.
He asserted, “The people of Ondo State are with me, and I am very confident that I will win the APC primary.”
Addressing supporters at the Akure Airport, Akinterinwa extended gratitude for their patience despite his delayed arrival due to adverse weather conditions.
He emphasized the importance of public appreciation for good service, stating, “Your gesture is a testimonial that when you do well, people will appreciate you. This is a manifestation of better things to come.”
