A group of members from the All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has defected to the Social Democratic Party ahead of the November 16 governorship election.
The defectors, led by Femi Ikoyi, formally renounced their APC membership and joined the SDP at a rally held at the party’s secretariat in Akure, according to NaijaNews.
They cited unfair treatment within the APC as the reason for their departure.
The SDP Chairman in Ondo State, Gbenga Akinbunmi, welcomed the defectors and assured them of equal treatment within the party.
The SDP governorship candidate, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, congratulated the new members and promised to embark on inclusive governance if elected.
This development is seen as a boost to the SDP’s chances in the upcoming election, as the defectors bring significant political clout and experience to the party.
He said, “I’m bringing my PDM people in APC to PDP. We know the SDP candidate is the favourite of Abuja.
“We aim to win the election. What APC is doing to us at the local level is not encouraging. This is why we are moving to SDP. I am here to deliver Akingboye.”
