The former Finance Commissioner of Ondo State and an All Progressive Congress governorship aspirant, Wale Akinterinwa, has publicly commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for their professionalism.
Akinterinwa, who had been invited by the EFCC, took to his social media handle on Thursday to express his sentiments after leaving the EFCC office.
In his statement, Akinterinwa said, “I just left the EFCC office following their invitation. I commend the operatives for being very professional and civil.”
He further assured the EFCC of his “utmost cooperation whenever I am needed to assist in their investigations.”
This statement comes amidst reports that Akinterinwa was being investigated for alleged mismanagement of funds during his tenure as the commissioner of finance.
However, Akinterinwa has denied allegations of being detained by the EFCC, stating that such claims were a “figment of imagination” and emphasizing his presence in Ondo State.
The clarification from Akinterinwa followed a series of conflicting reports regarding his status with the EFCC. While some sources reported that he had been detained, others confirmed that he voluntarily appeared at the EFCC office in response to their invitation.
Premium Politics earlier reported on Thursday that Akinterinwa voluntarily honored the invitation of the EFCC. Disclosing this via his official X handle, he wrote, “Today, I will be honoring the invitation from the EFCC to shed more light on some issues that the commission wants clarification on.
“I have confidence in the anti-graft agency to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is done.”
Akinterinwa’s engagement with the EFCC has garnered attention due to his political aspirations and his service as Commissioner for over seven years under the administration of the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
