A former Presidential aide and social activist, Reno Omokri, has challenged Arise Television to produce a copy of the subpoena which was sent to the Chicago State University asking for Tinubu’s academic record.
Omokri who took this step through a post on his X handle on Friday, August 25, 2023, while reacting to the Chicago State University’s response to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s request, to produce copies of Tinubu’s academic records, alleged that Arise Tv has been its broadcaster, Rufai Oseni, to feed Nigerians with propaganda.
The former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, who posted a copy of a letter given to him by the American University, noting that he went there to confirm Tinubu’s record in the University, alleged that the Nigerian television station is working on behalf of the 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, to run a propaganda campaign against the President.
The Peoples Democratic Party had on Thursday, August 24, 2023, posted on its official X handle, that Chicago State University had stated that Tinubu graduated from the institution in 1979, and also agreed to provide the academic record of the President, due to a US Court order submitted by Atiku, compelling the University to do so.
Meanwhile, according to Omokri, he had earlier had a face-up with Arise TV, based on its publication on November 22, 2022, where the TV station claimed that the American varsity denied any record related to a name called Tinubu, in its system, after receiving a subpoena from a US court.
However, the former Presidential aide challenged the TV station to produce the subpoena or take down the publication, and tender an apology, for allegedly feeding about 2 million Nigerians with malicious news.
Omokri however, posted his air ticket to the University, as well as a copy of the letter, received from the institution, while challenging the TV station, to provide proof.
“How can AriseTV put a known liar on air to feed Nigerians propaganda and call it news?
“Mr Rufai Oseni is a liar. I proved it to AriseTV without a shadow of a doubt. Till today, AriseTV has still not done a correction to that interview stating that Mr Rufai Oseni lied to Nigerians that Chicago State University denied Tinubu’s records after being hit with a subpoena.
“Now, I ask AriseTV and Mr Oseni to produce the so-called subpoena to Nigerians or afoot that they published LIES to Nigerians and refused to call their presenter to order when he maligned me.
“This is the document Chicago State University sent me after visiting them in person to investigate whether or not Bola Tinubu attended their institution.
“Anyone who doubts its authenticity can phone or email them on the phone numbers and email addresses provided.
“Now that Chicago State University has also deposed to an affidavit in court stating that Bola Tinubu did attend and graduate from Chicago State University, can Mr Rufai Oseni and AriseTV now publish the so-called subpoena of which Mr Rufai Oseni claimed on AriseTV on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, that Chicago State University denied Tinubu’s records? Because you cannot be broadcasting LIES to the public and calling it news!
“If AriseTV wants to run a propaganda network for Mr Peter Obi using Mr Rufai Oseni, then they should say so and call themselves Arise Propaganda.
“But you can’t claim to be a news network, and you front a proven liar to feed propaganda to the public.
“Mr. Rufai Oseni messed with the wrong person. This is someone whose entire family benefited from the generosity and charity of my late mother, and he went on air to bite the child on the finger that fed him.
“AriseTV and Mr Rufai Oseni must publish the so-called subpoena by which Chicago State University denied Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials or admit that they are fronting a known liar to the public,” Omokri tweeted.
