Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has revealed that Ogun State is on the verge of joining the league of oil-producing states in Nigeria.
Speaking in Ota on Tuesday during the second edition of the Town Hall Meeting/Mega Empowerment and Thank You Tour of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Senator Adeola disclosed that preparations are already underway for crude oil drilling to commence at Tongeji Island, located within Ipokia Local Government Area, near the border with the Republic of Benin.
He attributed this significant milestone to the economic reforms being pursued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the investor-friendly policies of Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
According to him, “modalities are being put in place to commence crude oil drilling at the island on the fringe of the border between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.”
Senator Adeola lauded President Tinubu for “taking the bull by the horns and giving the country’s economy a new direction,” and commended Governor Abiodun “for espousing the infrastructural and socio-economic development of Ogun State.”
He noted that under President Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria has attracted more foreign direct investment in less than two years, while Ogun State, under Governor Abiodun, has become “the best investor destination of choice.”
He added that the commencement of crude oil extraction at Tongeji Island would bring about unprecedented economic growth and prosperity for Ogun State and increase Nigeria’s overall crude oil production.
The senator further praised Governor Abiodun for completing major projects, particularly the agro-cargo airport, which he said has already attracted other mega private-sector projects, including the establishment of a dry seaport.
He added that Governor Abiodun would be remembered as “the best in terms of delivering infrastructural and socio-economic development.”
Senator Adeola explained that his decision to decentralize the ongoing empowerment initiative was aimed at reaching more constituents across the senatorial district. He said the programme also served as a gesture of appreciation to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area for their support during the 2023 general elections.
Highlighting his achievements, Adeola stated that the largest project he facilitated is located in the Ado-Odo/Ota axis. “Fifteen road projects have been completed as constituency projects, while nine others are still ongoing in different parts of the local government,” he revealed.
He also disclosed that a sum of N26 billion has been mobilized for the construction of the Atan-Ikonga-Alapoti-Ado-Odo Road, adding that the road project, once completed, would significantly enhance the economic fortunes of Ado-Odo/Ota LGA.
Assuring his constituents of continued quality representation, Senator Adeola said, “I moved 10 bills under two years, and 70 percent of them have scaled second reading.”
