The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has praised the party leadership for promising to refund the interest form fee to the family of a deceased aspirant from Imo State, Chief Humphrey Anumudu.
Anumudu had purchased the party’s governorship interest form sold for N25 million, unfortunately, on March 24, he died in his house in Lagos, after returning from the party’s meeting held at the party national headquarters in Abuja.
Following this development, the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, stated that as a form of empathy and compassion, the party would refund the N25 million nomination fee paid by the deceased to his immediate family.
The chairman, who stated this on Tuesday during a meeting with the National Assembly-elect members of the party in Abuja, insisted that empathy is what the party stood for and hence the need to support Anumudu’s family in their trying time.
Obi, in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Wednesday, commended the party leadership for promising the refund to the family of the deceased.
He also hailed the party for agreeing to refund N10m to each of the governorship aspirants that had paid N25 million naira for the governorship form.
He wrote, “I applaud the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Barr. Julius Abure, and the NWC for also agreeing to refund the cost of the form to the family of a deceased aspirant Chief Humphrey Anumudu from Imo State; and also agreeing to refund N10m to each of those that had paid.
