The acting chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Abia State, Hon. Kelechi Apugo, said that the Kwankwasiyya group has nothing to do with the party.
Apugo cleared the air during an interview with the press.
He stated that NNPP does not have much challenges except the Kwankwasiyya group which wanted to modify the party’s logo, according to the Independent.
He stressed that the group had forgotten that it had nothing to do with the party and it does not have the power to do such a thing.
He revealed that the sole aim of the group was to join the party for the sake of the 2023 general elections, adding that the memorandum of understanding between the duo had been terminated.
He said, “There is no much problem except that Kwankwaso group wanted to adjust the NNPP logo, forgetting that Kwankwasiyya is different from NNPP. They don’t have the power to do such a thing. Kwankwasiyya is a group and not NNPP. They came into the party for the purpose of the 2023 general election. NNPP has terminated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed to bring them in and as I speak to you, they have gone and remain gone. The original owners of NNPP have collected their party back and that is it.
“Our National Working Committee chairman is Dr. Agbo Major while Dr. Aniebonam is the Board of Trustees chairman. That is the leadership hierarchy of the party. Any other one announced by any group is false and misleading.
“I won’t tell you that we are making any efforts to reach out to Kwankwasiya because they have been expelled from the party. And our door is always open. We are expecting other political heavyweights even bigger than Kwankwaso to join the NNPP. I won’t tell you all that the party is doing right now. We are making efforts to ensure that the NNPP is even greater than the party that contested the last election. We don’t have any problem. It is only Kwankwasiya that wanted to usurp the party, not realising that NNPP is different from Kwankwasiya. We have expelled them and we have expelled them, there is no problem about it.”
