The Independent National Electoral Commission continued the process of results collation of Saturday’s presidential election, at the INEC national collation center, Abuja, after a break, declared by the INEC boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
It would be recalled that, the INEC boss announced a 1 hour recess, amidst Dino Melaye’s drama, during the collation process.
However, the process continued at about 4:PM, on Monday, at the time, when calmness has returned to the collation center, after Dino Melaye’s drama.
Meanwhile, the session started with Melaye, stating that the being a party agents doesn’t make one a rubber stamp so, they have to challenge the activities of the INEC, based on the results reading from different centers, noting that, it is stipulated by the law, that result shall be transmitted from the state collation centers and be uploaded on the INEC website.
Butressing his, point, Melaye stated that the announced Ekiti State result, shows that there was over-voting in the state, even after comparing the number of the accredited voters and the number of the voters count in the state, asking for postponement of the process.
One of the party agents for the All Progressives Congress, however stated that the collation center is not meant for results, already announced, pleading for the continuation of the process.
While the argument was going on, one of the observers at collation center, pleaded for the continuation of the process, promising to investigate any mistake made, during the elections.
However, the Chairman of the commission, Yakubu, shed more light on the Ekiti result, maintaining his stand that there was no over-voting in Ekiti State, stating that the result with him shows no over-voting, and the that, the result is contestable at the court, after declaration of results, and the process continued, afterwards.
While, the Ondo state returning and collation officers started presenting their result, the PDP and some other party agents, left the podium in annoyance, to boycotting the process and threatening legal actions.
