Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has extended his heartfelt appreciation to fans for their overwhelming support and kind messages, following the club’s announcement that he is currently hospitalized with pneumonia.
The 47-year-old, who has been at the helm of Newcastle since November 2021, missed the team’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Manchester United at St James’ Park on Sunday due to his health condition.
According to reports, Howe checked into the hospital late Friday after battling an illness for several days.
Despite being absent from the sidelines, Howe remained connected to the action, watching the match from his hospital bed. Assistant manager Jason Tindall confirmed his presence from afar after the final whistle.
In a statement released by the club, Howe expressed his gratitude, saying, “A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family,”
“I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me.
“I’m immensely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible.”
While Howe continues his recovery, Tindall alongside Graeme Jones will oversee Newcastle’s upcoming fixtures against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa on April 16 and 19, respectively.
