The former presidential candidate of the Nigerian Labour Party, Peter Obi, has has been criticized by netizens for meddling in the politics of the United Kingdom as the parliamentary election draws near.
Obi, on Wednesday, asked that voters vote for the United Kingdom political party, Labour Party, in the forthcoming parliamentary election.
The 2024 United Kingdom General Election will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2024, four and a half years after the previous one took place in December 2019.
It will determine the composition of the House of Commons, which determines the UK government.
While the two “Labour Parties” do not have any affiliations, Obi took to his X handle on Wednesday morning rallying support for the Labour Party in the UK.
He wrote, “Vote Labour on Thursday 4 July”.
Netizens have since trolled him for making such requests, seeing, he nor his party are not connected with the UK’s party.
@duchessmabboud wrote, “I no understand. As per @NgLabour is a branch of GB Labour Party?ðŸ˜
“No go warm eba chop.😂”
Probably an obidient, @UnkleAyo wrote, “Errrrmmmmmmmmmmmm. I’m not really sure we should be doing this.
“This can be indirectly, accurately inferenced as “meddling in international politics”.
“Let your followers do the pushing. You shouldn’t be taking this kind of public stand.
“Let’s stake consistency on our ethos.”
@shophaastrup suggested a plausible political connection brewing as he wrote, “Hope this isn’t what it is smelling like. Labour wants to subtly help Labour in the UK so that Labour in the UK will subtly help Labour in Nigeria pre and during 2027 election. Wild but plausible, right?”
Tagging Peter Obi’s comment as meddling, @TheTegbe wrote, “This is meddling and it’s ridiculous and naive to do that.
“If these people meddle in 2027, please you people should not cry o.”
Tagging Obi’s move as a result of a bad advice, @Karigwe wrote, “PO sir: Although there’s a high possibility of Labour winning, I don’t really know who advised you to make this post. That’s bad advice. You don’t involve yourself in another country’s election as a leader from your own country; you just watch and congratulate the winner, no matter how they got there. We learnt that from the USA, the UK, and other world leaders during and after our own election.”
