The Channels Television popular host on “Politics Today,’ Seun Okinbaloye has reacted to the fine of N5 million slammed on the TV station, by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission.
It would be recalled that NBC awarded the said fine to the TV station, following a political program aired by the media outfit, where the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election in Nigeria, Datti Baba-Ahmed was featured on the program.
Speaking during the program on March 22, 2023, Baba-Ahmed appealed to the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (rdt), and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, to make sure that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is not being sworn-in as the 10th Nigeria’s elected president, come May 29, 2023.
Subsequently, the President-elect Asiwaju Tinubu had petitioned the NBC to fine the stationed for the unguided statements made by Baba-Ahmed, during the program, noting that the Anchor of the show, Okin-Baloye could not caution the Labour Party Chieftain while making the statements.
A Media Aide to the President-elect, Bayo Onanuga, who is also a media personality, had in the petition signed by him, accused Baba-Ahmed of making several inciting comments during the interview, noting that Okinbaloye failed in his professional obligation, to stop the politician, from making such comments.
However, in his reaction to the development, Okinbaloye declared that “media will not be silenced, as Nigeria belongs to everyone.”
