The National Board for Technical Education has granted accreditation and approval for 33 academic programmes at Isa Mustapha Aqwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, owned by the Nasarawa State Government.
This was contained in a letter dated April 8, 2025, addressed to the institution’s Rector and signed by Dr. Fatima Umar, Director of Polytechnic Programmes Department, on behalf of the NBTE Executive Secretary. The approved programmes are scheduled to commence from the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a press statement released on Thursday, the institution’s Director of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mukhtar Wakeel, described the accreditation as a major milestone in the Polytechnic’s journey toward academic excellence and enhanced technical education.
“This development is a testament to the institution’s unwavering commitment to strengthening science and engineering capacities in Nigeria’s technical education space,” Wakeel stated. “IMAP is working toward becoming one of the country’s top five most competitive polytechnics through innovation, partnerships, and service to both local and global communities.”
The newly accredited programmes include 16 courses such as National Diploma (ND) in Urban & Regional Planning, Estate Management & Valuation, Quantity Surveying, Accountancy, Business Administration, Public Administration, Civil Engineering Technology, and Computer Science.
Others include ND in Science Laboratory Technology, Tourism Management Technology, Institutional Administration, Local Government Studies, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, along with Higher National Diploma (HND) in Library and Information Science and HND Science Laboratory Technology (Biochemistry Option).
