The All Progressives Congress has announced its primary election schedule for Nasarawa State, ahead of the November 2 local government elections. The party will hold its councillorship primaries on October 14, 2024.
The chairmanship primaries will follow on October 16, across the state’s 13 local government areas. APC State Chairman Aliyu Bello made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lafia, according to NaijaNews.
The meeting outlined procedures for selecting candidates for chairmanship and councillorship roles. Bello noted that the party has yet to decide on the primary election method – consensus, direct, or indirect.
Key dates include:
– October 7-10: Sale of expression of interest forms
– October 10-12: Candidate screening
Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule reiterated his commitment to maintaining APC’s governorship in 2027.
He thanked former governors Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Umaru Al-Makura for their ongoing support.
The APC aims to emerge victorious in the local government elections, with Bello urging stakeholders to engage with a sense of urgency. The party’s participation is guided by the Nasarawa State Local Government Law of 2018 (as amended) and the state’s electoral commission timetable.
Bello said: “The timetable for the election has just been released by the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, in line with the State Local Government Law of 2018 (as amended).
“As you all know, our party will fully participate in the elections with zeal, spirit, and unwavering commitment to emerge victorious.”
