Popular Afrobeats artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that despite his fame and financial success, his father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, still supports him financially.
The award-winning artiste made the disclosure during a recent interview on Club Radio while promoting his upcoming album 5ive. In the course of the interview, Davido spoke fondly of his father’s continued generosity and encouragement.
“If I tell you that my dad don’t give his kid money, I will be lying to you. My daddy still gives me cheque. I’m his baby,” he said.
Davido also shared a memorable moment from one of his concerts in the United States, where his father surprised him with both praise and a generous cash gift.
“My dad came to my show in Atlanta. He said, ‘Amazing show, my son. Good job, good job,’ and then he wired me $300,000,” Davido said.
Throughout his career, Davido has consistently acknowledged the pivotal role his father played in shaping his musical journey, both emotionally and financially. In earlier interviews, the singer had disclosed how Chief Adeleke once offered him an incentive to return to school after he dropped out to pursue music full-time. His father promised to fund his music videos and build him a state-of-the-art studio on the condition that he resumed his studies and attended lectures regularly.
That arrangement eventually led Davido to complete his university education, earning a Second Class Upper degree in Music from Babcock University.
In another demonstration of his unwavering support, Chief Adeleke also intervened during the early stages of Davido’s career by buying him out of his first contract with Black Diamond Promotions. The move came after he listened to Davido’s breakout single, *Dami Duro*, and wanted his son to retain full control over his music and career trajectory.
Despite his global acclaim, numerous chart-topping hits, and commercial success, Davido emphasised that his bond with his father remains solid and deeply valued.
“My dad is proud of me, and I’m proud to be his son,” he added.
