As Nigerian workers joined their counterparts around the globe to mark International Workers’ Day on May 1st, Senate President Godswill Akpabio praised the resilience and contributions of the country’s workforce, assuring them of protection and support under the current administration.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th National Assembly to safeguarding workers’ rights and welfare. He stressed that no worker in Nigeria would be penalised for standing up for their rights or seeking legal redress.
“Today, we honour the diligence and perseverance of Nigerian workers,” Akpabio stated. “Your hard work remains central to the development of our nation. Despite economic challenges, your commitment to duty is both admirable and inspiring.”
He further emphasized the National Assembly’s dedication to passing legislation that favours workers and enhances their conditions of service.
“Under our watch, the National Assembly will continue to pursue policies that prioritise your welfare, safety, and working conditions. Nigerian workers will not be victimised for exercising their rights,” Akpabio assured.
The Senate President commended the labour force for remaining steadfast in the face of adversity and for their role in sustaining the nation’s economy.
“Your resilience is the backbone of Nigeria’s progress. We recognise your sacrifices and reaffirm our promise to work alongside the Executive to address your concerns and promote prosperity for all,” he added.
Concluding his message, Akpabio extended warm wishes to Nigerian workers on behalf of his family, constituents, and the entire 10th National Assembly, expressing hope for a peaceful and productive future.
