In a significant blow to the All Progressives Congress in Kano State, 1,331 members from Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area have defected to the New Nigerian People’s Party.
The defectors, mainly from 11 wards, were received by NNPP State Chairman Hashimu Dungurawa at a ceremony in Dawakin-Tofa.
Prominent among the defectors are former Vice Chairman of the local government area, Malam Kwa, and former state House of Assembly aspirant, Hon. Audu Tumfafi.
Dungurawa commended the defectors, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party.
He also dismissed rumours of mass defections from NNPP to APC, stating that their membership roll remains unchanged.
Kwa criticized former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s eight-year tenure, citing underdevelopment in the area and poor party management.
This mass defection is the latest in a series of setbacks for APC in Kano State, as NNPP continues to gain momentum.
“We learnt one APC man has been receiving members of NNPP into APC. We have checked the roll call of our members and we have not noticed any reduction in our numerical strength.
“I need to advise them to beware of 419 people coming to collect the public funds in the name of decampees,” Mr Dungurawa added.
