The Labour Party launched its campaign council in preparation for the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
The inauguration which took place on Wednesday, was saddled with the responsibility to win over more eligible voters to the party.
The State Chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, inaugurated the council, comprising over 30 strategic committees working alongside the Sam Omede-led campaign team.
Ogbaloi expressed optimism about the party’s chances, citing widespread disillusionment with the two dominant parties that have ruled the state since 1999.
He emphasized the party’s commitment to mobilizing all stakeholders to support and vote for its governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, SAN.
The party clarified that Akpata is the sole governorship candidate, urging the public to disregard any conflicting information, according to Daily Post.
In addition to the state campaign council, the party has established senatorial, local government, and ward coordinators to promote and project its candidate across all 18 local government areas, three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, and 192 wards.
In an interview, Barrister Olumide Akpata expressed confidence in the campaign council’s caliber, stating that the party has chosen the right leaders to guide it to victory.
According to him, “If you listen to the names of those mentioned, they are an array of very faithful and loyal party men and women, and most of them are very experienced.”
While noting that the journey to Dennis Osadebay Avenue is not an easy one, he said, “You need those who have worked the road before, understand what campaign is about, and politicking about.”
He said, with the choice of Reverend Sam Omede as the Director-General of the Governorship campaign council, the party is sure of victory.
“We also have come up with the innovation of deputy director-generals for each zone. And we have picked three distinguished gentlemen to run each of the zones as deputy director-general to assist Reverend Sam Omede as our director-general. We also have our woman leader as the chairperson of the women mobilization committee.
“So, you can understand why I am beaming with confidence and excited.
“These are just a few of the committees we have mentioned. We also have coordinators for all the 18 local government areas. Our campaigns would be present in all our local governments. So, I am confident, hopeful, and I am sure of victory come September 21, governorship election,” he said.
On his part, the Director-General of the campaign council, Sam Omede, who said the council has a big task ahead of it, added that with God, all things would be easy for them.
Omede said the major task of the council is to coordinate and work with all the committees to go round the state for the purpose of wooing more eligible voters to the party.
