Mr. Taiwo Odumosu, a legal practitioner formerly representing the family of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has publicly distanced himself from the GoFundMe account created to support investigations surrounding the singer’s death.
In a statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday, Odumosu emphasized that he was not involved in any financial transactions tied to the toxicology analysis conducted on the late artiste.
He stated that the family handled all negotiations and payments to the pathologist independently.
“All payments were made directly to the pathologist and that he had no connection with the GoFundMe account set up for Mohbad’s cause,” he said.
Odumosu further clarified, “At no point was any payment routed through me or my law office. Mr. Famuyiwa made the payment directly to the pathologist. I wish to state clearly that I know nothing about the GoFundMe Account: I am neither in charge of nor a signatory to the GoFundMe account created for Mohbad’s cause.”
Providing more insight into the toxicology process, the lawyer revealed that the laboratory in Europe which conducted the test did so at no cost.
“At a meeting attended by both Mr. Famuyiwa and me, the pathologist disclosed that the European laboratory that conducted the toxicology test did so free of charge. Accordingly, the family should publicly disclose how the remaining funds in the GoFundMe account have been managed,” he said.
Odumosu also expressed concern over what he described as widespread misinformation and damage to the reputation of both himself and the forensic pathologist involved in the case.
“The pathologist in question showed remarkable courage by engaging with a case many of his colleagues were hesitant to approach, given its sensitive and high-profile nature.”
He maintained that the integrity of the post-mortem and toxicology procedures remained intact.
“It is imperative to refute that at no time was the process of the post-mortem examination or toxicology compromised.”
Odumosu detailed how Mr. Famuyiwa Ayodele initially approached them to engage the services of a certified pathologist for a second autopsy and toxicology test, and how all financial dealings were handled solely by the family.
“The initial contact, Mr. Famuyiwa Ayodele, reached out to us to secure the services of a qualified pathologist for the second autopsy and toxicology analysis. Mr. Famuyiwa independently negotiated the fees and financial arrangements with the pathologist regarding the financial negotiation,” he explained.
In closing, Odumosu questioned the motives of individuals claiming to seek justice for Mohbad, insisting that truth would eventually emerge.
“I can affirm to the best of my knowledge that the process of the post-mortem examination carried out by the pathologist was handled with utmost care and best practice, attesting to his expertise. Nonetheless, justice will prevail, not only for Mohbad but also against all who seek to distort the truth and defame those who have stood firmly for what is right. In time, the truth will vindicate us all,” he added.
