The Lagos State Government has rolled out a major initiative to ease traffic congestion and curb illegal parking by introducing 3,941 new parking slots in strategic locations across the state.
This development was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during a media briefing held to commemorate the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
According to Osiyemi, the move is part of a broader effort to enhance traffic flow by offering motorists safe and orderly parking solutions.
“The new parking facilities are designed to accommodate thousands of vehicles and offer residents structured options instead of parking indiscriminately,” he said.
He emphasized the key role of the Lagos State Parking Authority, which is charged with implementing parking regulations, removing obstructions, and encouraging voluntary compliance with the state’s parking guidelines.
To ensure effective management, the state has been segmented into five primary parking zones—namely Ikeja, Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, and Surulere, allowing for tailored approaches to parking issues in each area.
In addition, the government has mounted 669 directional signages on major roads to help motorists navigate to approved parking locations, aiming to improve convenience and promote a more structured urban transport system.
Osiyemi concluded by urging drivers to utilize only the approved parking spaces to avoid sanctions, reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and public services for improved living standards.
