Lawmaker Adewale Adedeji has facilitated the provision of 750 glasses and 50 free cataract surgeries for his constituents in Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 01 at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The three-day initiative, which began on Thursday at the Constituency Office, Unity Centre, aimed to enhance eye health and included the distribution of essential medications.
Adedeji highlighted the importance of vision health, stating, “Clear vision is crucial for every aspect of life, from education to daily tasks. By providing these glasses and surgeries, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our people.”
Initially, the plan was to provide free cataract surgery for 20 people, but due to the turnout and feedback from ophthalmologists, the number was increased to 50. “Initially, we planned free cataract surgery for 20 people. However, based on the turnout and feedback from the ophthalmologists, we have decided to increase the number to 50 to accommodate more people,” added Temitope.
Residents in need of corrective lenses received glasses on the spot, while those with cataracts were scheduled for surgery. Medications for various eye conditions were also distributed to support ongoing eye health.
Mrs. Tinu, a recipient of the free cataract surgery, expressed her gratitude, saying, “I had been struggling with my vision for years and couldn’t afford the surgery. This programme has given me a new lease on life.”
